Dr. Dan McClellan
is a public scholar of the Bible and religion. He received his PhD in theology and religion from the University of Exeter, where he wrote his dissertation on the conceptualization of deity and divine images in the Hebrew Bible through the methodological lenses of cognitive linguistics and the cognitive science of religion.Ā Since March of 2021, heĀ has been confronting misinformation on social mediaĀ related to the academic study of the Bible and religion. He goes by @maklelan on TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.Ā Since January of 2023, he has been dedicatedĀ full-time to combatting misinformation and increasing the public's access to scholarship about the Bible and religion, which now includes offering online classes like Biblical Hebrew. In 2022, he published a revised open-access version of his dissertation with SBL Press entitled YHWH's Divine Images: A Cognitive Approach. On April 29, 2025, Dan will publish his first trade volume, The Bible Says So: What We Get Right (and Wrong) About the Bible's Most Controversial Issues, with St. Martin's Press.
